Shawn Lewis is a shareholder at Hewson & Van Hellemont with extensive litigation and trial experience defending insurers in first-party Michigan no-fault claims, as well as third-party and uninsured motorist claims. Additionally, Mr. Lewis advises clients on numerous areas of law, including insurance coverage, rescission and subrogation rights. Mr. Lewis also has defended clients successfully in general negligence claims and has experience advising businesses on issues regarding formation, dissolution, general liability and contract disputes.
Mr. Lewis earned his bachelor’s degree from the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University in 2008. Mr. Lewis later attended Loyola University Chicago School of Law where he earned his Juris Doctor degree in 2011. While in law school, Mr. Lewis concentrated his studies in trial and appellate advocacy, earning a certificate from Loyola’s Center for Advocacy. During law school, Mr. Lewis also clerked at a defense firm in Chicago, gaining valuable experience in multiple areas of practice.
Prior to joining Hewson & Van Hellemont in 2011, Mr. Lewis worked as a personal injury attorney in Michigan. Since joining HVH, Mr. Lewis successfully has represented clients in high exposure cases involving complex medical claims and issues of fraud at trial, arbitration and mediation. Mr. Lewis has obtained no-cause verdicts and judgments for his clients against fraudulent claimants.
Mr. Lewis is an active member of the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel and in 2017 was asked to speak in a panelist discussion at the MDTC’s annual meeting to address issues facing young attorneys.
